For the rural municipality, see: the Rural Municipality of St. Laurent.
St. Laurent, Manitoba is a community on the east shore of Lake Manitoba and serviced by #6 Hwy. The Post Office opened as Indian Mission in 1872 and changed to St. Laurent in 1873. It lies within the boundaries of the Rural Municipality of St. Laurent and was established as a parish in 1858. The name possibly derived from Father Laurent Simonet OMI who established a mission in that year. Other opinions exist, however.
The settlement is shown on a Dominion Land Survey map (1874) and the Secretary of State (1872) includes St. Laurent Settlement in documentation.
